Attorney
Dulce M. Hernandez is the Founder of D.M. Hernandez Law Firm, PLLC. With over thirty years in the legal field (18 as an attorney and 13 as a law paralegal), she has broad experience in matters involving Real Estate, Family Law, Estate Planning, Business Organizations, Criminal Law and Immigration.
Dulce is the second of nine children and graduated from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo High School in 1986.
She attended Texas State Technical Institute in Harlingen, Texas where she received an Associate Degree as a Legal Secretary in 1988.
In 1998 she obtained a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary from University of Texas Pan American in Edinburg, Texas.
She graduated in 2001 from Thomas M. Cooley Law School located in Lansing, Michigan. While in law school she worked for various prestigious law firms until she relocated to Texas.
After she returned from law school Dulce worked for a local law firm until 2011.
In 2012 Dulce opened her own practice, D.M. Hernandez Law Firm, PLLC currently located at 4451 South Jackson Road, Suite A, Edinburg, Texas. Dulce concentrates in the areas of Family Law, Real Estate, Estate Planning, and Personal Injury.
She is an active member of the State Bar of Texas, the College of the State Bar of Texas, which recognizes attorneys who pursue excellence through voluntary attendance of continuing legal education programs, and Hidalgo County Bar Association.
In 2018 Dulce participated in the training and mentorship necessary to gain certification through Mediators & Arbitrators of America. In accordance with the Texas Alternative Resolution Act, Texas Civil Practices and Remedies Code §154.02, she completed 40 classroom hours in Basic Mediation; 30 classroom hours in Advanced Family Mediation Training and 10 classroom hours in Basic Arbitration Training.
Dulce’s other honors include 2017 HCBA John E. Cook Pro Bono Award, 2015 HCBA Volunteer of the Year and 2014 Women Together/Mujeres Unidas Attorney the Year.
She also likes to volunteer in community-based projects and is a loyal volunteer with the Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid, Inc.–Edinburg (Community Justice Program) (www.trlaorg) and Women Together / Mujeres Unidas.
She is also a member of Zonta International of West Hidalgo County (www.westhidalgozonta.org) and President of the Rio Grande Valley Literacy Center (www.rgvliteracycenter.org).
She currently lives in McAllen with her husband, Thomas F. Phillips and in her free time enjoys traveling. She has been to Arizona, California, Indiana, Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas, Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina, Washington, Canada, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain and France.
